मूर्छाग्निहानिर्भेदोऽस्थ्नां पिपासेन्द्रियगौरवम् । आमोपवेशनं लेपः स्रोतसां स च सर्pति ॥ ६१ ॥
It includes fainting, loss of digestive capacity, splitting pain in the bones, severe thirst, a feeling of heaviness in the sense organs, and the elimination of feces containing Ama (undigested toxic mucus), which forms a coating in the channels of the body as it spreads.

It generally starts by afflicting one specific region at the site of the Amashaya (stomach) and then spreads to other parts. It is studded with eruptions that are not intensely painful, and whose colors vary from deep yellow and red to yellowish-white.

Its color can also resemble the eye of a peacock's tail, deep blue, or black; it looks greasy, dirty, swollen, and heavy. It undergoes deep-seated ulceration (gambhira-paka) with high local heat, and when touched, the highly moist tissue breaks down.

The affected muscles slough off and fall away like mud or slush (panka-vat), cleanly exposing the underlying bundles of tendons and veins, while emitting a cadaveric, foul smell (signs of gangrene). This condition is named Kardama Visarpa.
