यथादितस्ते गुणतः प्रधाना ज्ञेयाः कटूष्णा रसपाकयोश्च | सहाद्वयं मूलकजाश्च शिम्बाः कुशिम्बिवल्लीप्रभवास्तु शिम्बाः ||४६||

"From the beginning, those pods (Shimba) which are pungent and hot in both taste and digestion are considered superior in qualities. There are also those that come from root-based plants, and the Shimbas that grow on creepers, like Kusimbi, are also known."

"They are known to be sweet in digestion and taste, providing strength, reducing pitta, and causing significant burning sensation. They are quite dry, create heaviness, and take time to digest, increasing vata."

"They are appetite-enhancing but very difficult to digest, all these legumes are considered to be such. Kusumbha is pungent in both digestion and taste, reducing kapha but harmful due to its burning nature."

"Warm flaxseed has a sweet taste, alleviates vata but aggravates pitta, and is pungent in digestion. Siddharthaka (white mustard) is described as pungent in both digestion and taste, and it aggravates blood and pitta."

Sharp, hot, dry, and having properties that destroy Kapha and Vata, black mustard is also known for these qualities. Grains that have not ripened properly, are affected by disease, or have not fully developed are not considered to be of good quality, whether they are fresh or not grown in soil.
