अथातश्छायाविप्रतिपत्तिमध्यायं व्याख्यास्यामः ||१||

Now we shall discourse on the chapter, which deals with the prognosis to be gathered from the altered condition of features (Chaya-vipratipatti-adhyaya).

अब हम उस अध्याय की व्याख्या करेंगे, जो विशेषताओं की परिवर्तित स्थिति से एकत्रित निदान से संबंधित है (छाया-विप्रतिपत्ति-अध्याय)।

श्यावा लोहितिका नीला पीतिका वाऽपि मानवम् | अभिद्रवन्ति यं छायाः स परासुरसंशयम् ||३||

sanskrit

The man, whose complexion suddenly assumes a brown, red, blue, or yellow shade, should be regarded as already gathered to his rest.

english translation

जिस व्यक्ति की त्वचा का रंग अचानक काला, लाल, नीला या पीला हो जाता है, उसे मृत मान लेना चाहिए।

ह्रीरपक्रमते यस्य प्रभास्मृतिधृतिश्रियः | अकस्माद्यं भजन्ते वा स गतासुरसंशयम् ||४||

sanskrit

The man, who has lost all sense of modesty or propriety, and whose complexion, strength, memory, and radiance have suddenly deteriorated, should be counted with the dead.

english translation

जिस व्यक्ति ने अचानक लज्जा, तेज, स्मृति और धैर्य खो दिया हो, उसे मृत मान लेना चाहिए।

यस्याधरौष्ठः पतितः क्षिप्तश्चोर्ध्वं तथोत्तरः | उभौ वा जाम्बवाभासौ दुर्लभं तस्य जीवितम् ||५||

sanskrit

Little chance there is of the life of a patient whose lower lip hangs down while the upper one is drawn or turned up, and both of them have assumed a black color like that of a jamboline fruit.

english translation

जिस रोगी का निचला होंठ लटक गया हो और ऊपरी होंठ ऊपर की ओर मुड़ गया हो, और दोनों का रंग जामुन के समान काला हो गया हो, उसके जीवित रहने की संभावना बहुत कम होती है।
