शरीरशीलयोर्यस्य प्रकृतेर्विकृतिर्भवेत् । तत्त्वरिष्टं समासेन, व्यासतस्तु निबोध मे ॥३॥
The perversion or contrariety in the functions of the body and mind is called Arishta (an unfavorable symptom foreboding death). Now, listen to me as I briefly describe the symptoms of Arishta.

शृणोति विविधाञ् शब्दान् यो दिव्यानामभावतः । समुद्रपुरमेघानामसम्पत्तौ च निःस्वनान् ॥४॥
The person who hears various divine sounds even in the absence of celestial beings, or thinks he hears the noise of the sea or the rumbling of a rain cloud, or fails to perceive these sounds even when they are present, should be considered as having an unfavorable prognosis.

जो व्यक्ति दिव्य ध्वनियाँ सुनता है, भले ही आकाशीय beings (जैसे सिद्ध, गंधर्व आदि) उपस्थित न हों, या सोचता है कि वह समुद्र का शोर या बारिश के बादलों की गरज सुन रहा है, या इन ध्वनियों को सुनने में असमर्थ है, जब वे वास्तव में उपस्थित हों, उसे प्रतिकूल भविष्यवाणी वाला माना जाना चाहिए।

तान् स्वनान्नावगृह्णाति मन्यते चान्यशब्दवत् । ग्राम्यारण्यस्वनांश्चापि विपरीताञ् शृणोति च ॥५॥
The person who cannot grasp these sounds or perceives them as coming from different sources, such as interpreting the sounds of a city or forest as originating from other sources, or who misinterprets the voices of friends and enemies, should be considered as having an unfavorable prognosis.
