The characteristics of malignant ulcers include various severe conditions: Atisaṁvṛto (Excessively covered): Excessively covered or hidden ulcers. Ativivṛto (Excessively exposed): Ulcers that are excessively exposed or open. Atikaṭhino (Excessively hard): Ulcers that are excessively hard to the touch. Atimṛdu (Excessively soft): Ulcers that are excessively soft. Utsanno (Swollen): Ulcers that are excessively swollen. Avasanno (Depressed): Ulcers that are depressed or sunken. Aṭiśīto (Excessively cold): Ulcers that are excessively cold. Aṭiṣṇa (Excessively hot): Ulcers that are excessively hot. In addition to these, the ulcer may exhibit other signs such as excessive burning sensation, pungent smell, or severe pain associated with deranged Pitta. The rest of the ulcers are characterized by deranged Kapha. Malignant ulcers have the following features: Unmārga (Obstructed pathway): Blockage or abnormal pathway for secretion. Mukhat Mukhāntaravān (Visible through the mouth): Ulcers that are visible through the mouth. Utsanga (Swelling): Ulcers with significant swelling. Kōṭara (Cavity): Presence of a cavity. Kṛṣṇa-rakta-pīta-śuklādīnām (Various colors): Presence of colors like black, red, yellow, white, etc. The ulcer may also exhibit excessive secretion of putrid and fetid matter, along with severe pain, burning sensation, itching, swelling, and other symptoms. It may be accompanied by secondary infections, prolonged healing, or severe discharges. Treatment should be tailored based on the specific type of dosha (body humour) involved.
