प्राक् शस्त्रकर्मणश्चेष्टं भोजयेदातुरं भिषक् । मद्यपं पाययेन्मद्यं तीक्ष्णं यो वेदनाऽसहः ॥११॥

Before performing any surgical procedure, the physician should feed the patient and, if the patient is intolerant to pain, should administer strong wine to the patient.

न मूर्च्छत्यन्नसंयोगान्मत्तः शस्त्रं न बुध्यते । तस्मादवश्यं भोक्तव्यं रोगेषूक्तेषु कर्मणि ॥१२॥

If the patient does not become unconscious due to the absence of food and drink, the surgeon should not proceed with the surgical procedure. Therefore, it is essential to provide nourishment to the patient before undertaking any medical procedure.

The vital breath (Prana), which is internal and supports the external life forces, sustains the body, which is composed of the five elements, without any obstruction.

अल्पो महान् वा क्रियया विना यः समुच्छ्रितः पाकमुपैति शोफः । विशालमूलो विषमं विदग्धः स कृच्छ्रतां यात्यवगाढदोषः ॥१४॥

A swelling that, whether small or large, undergoes a difficult or severe transformation without proper treatment, becomes deep-seated with complex symptoms, and transforms into a serious condition with extensive and irregular complications.

आलेपविस्रावणाशोधनैस्तु सम्यक् प्रयुक्तैर्यदि नोपशाम्येत् । पच्येत शीघ्रं सममल्पमूलः स पिण्डितश्चोपरि चोन्नतः स्यात् ॥१५॥

If a swelling does not subside even with the proper use of ointments, drainage, and purifying treatments, it should be treated promptly. It will then become confined and elevated, with its base diminishing, and will eventually be manageable.

यदि शोफ उचित रूप से लेप, प्रवाहण, और शोधन उपचारों के बावजूद शांत नहीं होता है, तो उसे शीघ्र उपचारित किया जाना चाहिए। तब यह संकुचित और ऊँचा हो जाएगा, इसका आधार कम हो जाएगा, और अंततः इसे प्रबंधित किया जा सकेगा।
