प्राक् शस्त्रकर्मणश्चेष्टं भोजयेदातुरं भिषक् । मद्यपं पाययेन्मद्यं तीक्ष्णं यो वेदनाऽसहः ॥११॥
Before performing any surgical procedure, the physician should feed the patient and, if the patient is intolerant to pain, should administer strong wine to the patient.

शस्त्रकर्म करने से पूर्व, चिकित्सक को रोगी को भोजन कराना चाहिए और यदि रोगी दर्द को सहन नहीं कर सकता, तो उसे तीव्र मद्य पिलाना चाहिए।
