For the benefit of kings, children, elderly, weak, and delicate individuals, the method of using leeches for bloodletting is prescribed as a highly gentle treatment.

For blood affected by Vata, Pitta, or Kapha doshas, leeches should be applied in proportion to the quantity of the blood. All types of leeches, or particularly those that are specified, should be used for this purpose.
