From the vital energies that are undergoing transformations of the semen and menstrual blood, seven types of skin arise. The first is called Avabhāsinī, which illuminates all colors and manifests the fivefold shade; it measures eighteen parts of rice and is based on the thorn of the Siddhampadma. The second is called Lohitā, measuring sixteen parts, based on sesame and the skin of a young girl. The third is called Śvetā, measuring twelve parts, based on the skin of the leaf of a Jagali tree. The fourth is called Tāmra, measuring eight parts, based on various varieties of Kilaasa and Kusṭha. The fifth is called Vedinī, measuring five parts, based on Kusṭha and Visarpa. The sixth is called Rohiṇī, based on the measure of rice, and it is based on the granthya (binding) of the Pachyarbuda and the Garbhagandha. The seventh is called Mānśadharā, measuring two parts of rice, based on the symptoms of bhagandara (fistula) and the remnants of wounds. This measurement is specified in relation to the flesh and not to the subtle digits of the forehead; it will be discussed regarding the abdomen: 'The measure of the rice must be firmly pierced at the belly using the thumb' (Chikitsa 14).
