From the first day of the menstrual cycle, one should avoid the following: day sleep, application of collyrium, excessive weeping, bathing, anointing, cutting nails, excessive running, laughter, excessive talking, loud noises, writing, exertion of the wind. Why? Because day sleeping leads to laziness, collyrium causes blindness, excessive weeping leads to disturbed vision, bathing and anointing promote sorrow, oil massage can lead to skin diseases, cutting nails results in filth, excessive running causes restlessness, laughter results in pallor of the lips and tongue, excessive talking leads to a loquacious nature, loud noises can lead to deafness, writing leads to wickedness, and exertion leads to madness. Therefore, one should avoid these. One should also protect oneself from offerings made on darbha grass and avoid food that is harmful to the husband for three days. After that, a pure bath on the fourth day, along with adornments and a ceremonial recitation of blessings, should be performed for the husband. What is the reason for this?
