शीतोऽविवर्णोऽल्परुजोऽतिकण्डूः पाषाणवत् संहननोपपन्नः | चिराभिवृद्धिश्च कफप्रकोपाद्भिन्नः स्रवेच्छुक्लघनं च पूयम् ||६||

The Kaphaja type of Granthi is cold, discolored, with little pain, and accompanied by excessive itching. It feels as hard as a stone, grows slowly over time, and when it bursts, thick white pus is discharged.

The Medaja type of Granthi increases or decreases in size with the gain or loss of body weight. It is glossy, large, with little pain, and causes excessive itching. When it bursts, fat resembling pressed sesame oil is discharged.

The Vayu, aggravated by excessive physical exertion in a weak person, pulls, compresses, contracts, and dries up the veins and arteries, quickly causing an elevated, round-shaped knotty swelling known as Shira-Granthi.

The knot (Granthi) involving the veins (Sira) is difficult to treat if it becomes painful and mobile. If it is painless, immobile, and large, and if it arises from vital points (Marmas), it should be avoided in treatment.

Thus ends the Nidana of Granthi. The fat accumulated in the joints, such as the bones, the elbows, and the other regions, either causes a firm and rounded swelling or a smooth, cold, and slightly painful one due to the predominance of Kapha.
