Now we shall discourse on the Nidana (diagnosis) of Granthi (glands), Apachi (scrofula), Arvuda (tumours), and Galaganda (goitre).

वातादयो मांसमसृक् च दुष्टाः सन्दूष्य मेदश्च कफानुविद्धम् । वृत्तोन्नतं विग्रथितं तु शोफं कुर्वन्त्यतो ग्रन्थिरिति प्रदिष्टः ॥३॥
The vitiated Vata, Pitta, and Kapha, by affecting the muscles, blood, and fat mixed with Kapha, give rise to a round, elevated, and knotty swelling, which is called Granthi (glandular inflammation).

The Vataja type of Granthi feels as if it is being stretched, pricked, or pierced. It appears black, hard, and resembles an inflated bladder. When it bursts, clear, bright blood flows out.

वातज प्रकार की ग्रंथि खिंची हुई, चुभने वाली या छेदी हुई महसूस होती है। यह काली, कठोर और फूले हुए मूत्राशय के समान होती है। फूटने पर इससे साफ़, चमकीला रक्त बहता है।

The Pittaja type of Granthi is characterized by a burning sensation, feeling as if it is being smoked or sucked. It seems as if it is being boiled or set on fire. The knotty formation is red or yellowish, and when it bursts, extremely hot blood flows out.
