Now, we shall describe the general symptoms of snakebite applicable to all serpents. Why is this necessary? Poison, akin to the swift action of a sharp sword or fire, quickly spreads and can fatally affect the patient if neglected even for a moment. There is no time to elaborate on each individual symptom; thus, three classifications cover all types of bites. Therefore, we will only present these three classifications, as it is practical, avoids confusion, and encompasses the characteristics of all snakes.

In cases of poisoning by Darvikara snakes, symptoms include blackening of the skin, eyes, nails, teeth, mouth, urine, and feces; dryness; heaviness in the head; joint pain; weakness in the lower back, waist, and neck; yawning; trembling; hoarseness; a croaking sound; lethargy; dry belching; cough; breathlessness; hiccups; upward movement of air (vayu); pain and twisting sensations; thirst; excessive saliva; frothy discharge; obstruction in bodily channels; and various types of pain caused by vayu. With Mandali snake venom, symptoms include yellow discoloration of the skin and other areas; a desire for coolness; burning sensation; thirst; intoxication; fainting; fever; blood discharge both upward and downward; softening of muscles; swelling; itching at the bite site; yellowish vision; sudden outbursts of rage—all indicative of pitta-associated pain. In cases of Rajiman snake venom, symptoms include whitening of the skin and other areas; chills with fever; horripilation; stiffness in limbs; swelling at the bite site; thick phlegm discharge; frequent vomiting; itching in the eyes; swelling in the throat; croaking sounds; breathlessness; and a sensation of darkness—all suggestive of kapha-associated pain.

A man bitten by a snake looks upwards, while a woman bitten shows veins protruding on the forehead and looks downwards. A eunuch bitten looks sideways. A pregnant woman bitten develops a pale, bloated face, and a postpartum woman experiences abdominal pain, urinates blood, and has swelling under the tongue. If bitten by a hungry snake, the person shows a craving for food. In the elderly, venom effects appear slowly and mildly, whereas in children, the effects are quick and gentle. If bitten by a non-venomous snake, no signs of poisoning appear. It is said that a person bitten by an "Andhahika" snake may go blind. When attacked by a python, death occurs due to constriction, not poison. In cases of an immediately fatal snakebite, the individual collapses to the ground as if struck by a weapon or lightning, with slackened limbs, and falls into sleep.

The venom of all snakes has seven stages of progression: For Darvikara snakes: 1. In the first stage, the venom contaminates the blood, turning it black and causing a sensation of ants crawling on the skin. 2. In the second stage, it affects the flesh, leading to severe blackening, swelling, and formation of nodules. 3. In the third stage, it impacts the fat, resulting in discharge from the bite, heaviness in the head, sweating, and visual impairment. 4. In the fourth stage, the venom penetrates the intestines, aggravating kapha-dominant doshas, causing drowsiness, excessive salivation, and joint dislocation. 5. In the fifth stage, it reaches the bones, disturbing vitality and digestive fire, causing joint pain, hiccups, and burning sensation. 6. In the sixth stage, it affects the bone marrow and severely harms the digestive system, leading to heaviness in limbs, diarrhea, chest pain, and fainting. 7. In the seventh stage, it reaches the reproductive fluid, intensely aggravating the vyana and expelling kapha from delicate channels, resulting in mucus plugs, breaking of the waist and back, impaired motor functions, excessive salivation and sweating, and breathlessness. For Mandalini snakes: 1. In the first stage, the venom contaminates the blood, turning it yellow, causing burning sensation and yellowish appearance of the limbs. 2. In the second stage, it affects the flesh, leading to extreme yellowing, burning, and swelling around the bite. 3. In the third stage, it contaminates the fat, leading to visual impairment, thirst, discharge from the bite, and sweating. 4. In the fourth stage, it invades the intestines, causing fever. 5. In the fifth stage, it causes burning throughout the body. 6. In the sixth and seventh stages, the effects resemble those of earlier stages. For Rajiman snakes: 1. In the first stage, the venom affects the blood, turning it pale and causing horripilation and a whitish appearance. 2. In the second stage, it contaminates the flesh, causing severe paleness, stiffness, and swelling of the head. 3. In the third stage, it affects the fat, causing visual impairment, discharge from the bite, sweating, and nasal and eye secretions. 4. In the fourth stage, it invades the intestines, causing stiffness of the neck and heaviness in the head. 5. In the fifth stage, it causes speech impairment and chills with fever. 6. In the sixth and seventh stages, the effects are similar to the previous ones.

The seven stages of venom progression in different bodily tissues are as follows: 1. The venom first affects the blood, causing it to become contaminated and exhibiting symptoms such as blackening or yellowing of the skin, swelling, and burning. 2. It then spreads to the flesh, resulting in further discoloration, excessive swelling, and intense pain at the bite site. 3. The venom reaches the fat, causing heaviness in the head, sweating, and visual impairment, among other symptoms. 4. Next, it penetrates the intestines, affecting the digestive system and causing symptoms like drowsiness, salivation, and joint dislocation. 5. The venom then reaches the bones, disturbing the body's vitality, leading to joint pain, hiccups, and fever. 6. In the sixth stage, it contaminates the marrow, severely disturbing the digestion, resulting in diarrhea, chest pain, and fainting. 7. Finally, the venom reaches the reproductive fluid, intensely aggravating the vyana and causing obstruction of subtle channels, leading to paralysis, excessive salivation, and breathlessness.
