धन्वन्तरिं महाप्राज्ञं सर्वशास्त्रविशारदम् | पादयोरुपसङ्गृह्य सुश्रुतः परिपृच्छति ||३||

sanskrit

Sushruta, with reverence, asks Lord Dhanvantari, the great wise one, who is well-versed in all sciences, while holding his feet.

सर्पसङ्ख्यां विभागं च दष्टलक्षणमेव च | ज्ञानं च विषवेगानां भगवन् ! वक्तुमर्हसि ||४||

O Lord, you are worthy to explain the classification of snakes, the signs of their bites, and the knowledge of the venomous effects.

तस्य तद्वचनं श्रुत्वा प्राब्रवीद्भिषजां वरः | असङ्ख्या वासुकिश्रेष्ठा विख्यातास्तक्षकादयः ||५||

Hearing these words, the best of physicians spoke: "There are countless snakes, the most eminent being Vasuki, and the renowned Takshaka and others."
