सरत्वसौक्ष्म्यतैक्ष्ण्यौष्ण्यविकाशित्वैर्विरेचनम् । वमनं तु हरेद्दोषं प्रकृत्या गतमन्यथा ॥३३॥

Due to its liquidity, subtlety, sharpness, heat, and spreading nature, a purgative expels the Doshas through the lower channels. An emetic, however, removes Doshas through the upper channels in accordance with their natural pathways.

english translation

अपनी तरलता, सूक्ष्मता, तीक्ष्णता, गर्मी और फैलने वाली प्रकृति के कारण, रेचक औषधि दोषों को निचली नलियों से बाहर निकालती है। वहीं, उबकाई लाने वाली औषधि दोषों को उनके प्राकृतिक मार्ग के अनुसार ऊपरी नलियों से बाहर निकालती है।
