Now we shall discourse on the recipes and modes of using elixirs and rejuvenators of the human organism which will make it invulnerable to the inroads of any disease or of decay (Sarvopaghata-Shamaniya-Rasayana).

पूर्वे वयसि मध्ये वा मनुष्यस्य रसायनम् । प्रयुञ्जीत भिषक् प्राज्ञः स्निग्धशुद्धतनोः सदा ॥३॥
A wise physician should (invariably) prescribe some sort of tonic (Rasayana) for his patients in their youth and middle age after having their systems (properly) cleansed by the applications of a Sneha and purifying remedies (emetics and purgatives).

एक बुद्धिमान चिकित्सक को (निश्चित रूप से) अपने रोगियों को उनकी युवावस्था और मध्य आयु में स्नेह के अनुप्रयोगों और शुद्धिकरण उपचारों (वमन और विरेचक) द्वारा उनके सिस्टम को (ठीक से) साफ करने के बाद किसी प्रकार के टॉनिक (रसायन) की सलाह देनी चाहिए।

नाविशुद्धशरीरस्य युक्तो रासायनो विधिः । न भाति वाससि क्लिष्टे रङ्गयोग इवाहितः ॥४॥
A person whose system has not been (previously) cleansed (Sodhana) with the proper purifying remedies (emetics and purgatives) should not, in any case, have recourse to such tonics inasmuch as they would fail to produce the wished-for result, just as the application of a dye to a piece of dirty cloth will prove non-effective.

जिस व्यक्ति के शरीर को सही तरीके से शुद्ध नहीं किया गया है, उसे किसी भी स्थिति में ऐसे रसायनों का उपयोग नहीं करना चाहिए, क्योंकि ये इच्छित परिणाम उत्पन्न नहीं करेंगे, जैसे कि गंदे कपड़े पर रंग लगाने से कोई प्रभाव नहीं होता।
