कटुपाक्युष्णवीर्यं च शोषणं छेदनं तथा । तेषु यत् कृष्णमलघु स्निग्धं निःशर्करं च यत् ॥९॥

It is pungent in digestion, hot in potency, and has drying and cutting properties. Among them, the one that is black, not light, oily, and free from gritty particles is the best.

english translation

यह कटु (तीखा) पाक में, उष्ण (गर्म) वीर्य में, शोषक (सूखाने वाला) और छेदन (काटने वाला) होता है। इनमें जो शिलाजतु काला, भारी, स्निग्ध (चिकना) और बिना कणों वाला होता है, वह श्रेष्ठ माना गया है।
