ज्ञेयं स्वगन्धतश्चापि षड्योनि प्रथितं क्षितौ । लोहाद्भवति तद्यस्माच्छिलाजतु जतुप्रभम् ॥६॥
It is recognized by its characteristic smell and is known on earth as Shad-Yoni (having six origins). Shilajatu, with the luster of shellac, originates from metals.

यह अपनी विशिष्ट गंध से पहचाना जाता है और पृथ्वी पर षड्योनि (छह उत्पत्तियों वाला) के नाम से प्रसिद्ध है। शिलाजतु, जो लाख की चमक वाला है, धातुओं से उत्पन्न होता है।

Shilajatu carries the potency and taste of the metal from which it originates. Metals like tin, lead, and others progressively increase in their efficacy.

शिलाजतु उस धातु की शक्ति और रस को धारण करता है, जिससे यह उत्पन्न होता है। टिन, सीसा आदि धातुएं क्रमशः अपनी प्रभावकारिता में बढ़ती जाती हैं।

hk transliteration by Sanscriptयथा तथा प्रयोगेऽपि श्रेष्ठे श्रेष्ठगुणाः स्मृताः । तत्सर्वं तिक्तकटुकं कषायानुरसं सरम् ॥८॥
Similarly, in their use, the superior ones are considered to have superior qualities. All types of Shilajatu are bitter, pungent, with an astringent aftertaste, and fluid in nature.

उसी प्रकार, इनके प्रयोग में भी श्रेष्ठ शिलाजतु के गुण श्रेष्ठ माने गए हैं। सभी प्रकार के शिलाजतु तिक्त (कड़वे), कटु (तीखे) होते हैं, जिनका कषाय (कसैला) अनुरस (पश्चात रस) होता है और यह सर (तरल) होते हैं।

yathA tathA prayoge'pi zreSThe zreSThaguNAH smRtAH । tatsarvaM tiktakaTukaM kaSAyAnurasaM saram ॥8॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptकटुपाक्युष्णवीर्यं च शोषणं छेदनं तथा । तेषु यत् कृष्णमलघु स्निग्धं निःशर्करं च यत् ॥९॥
It is pungent in digestion, hot in potency, and has drying and cutting properties. Among them, the one that is black, not light, oily, and free from gritty particles is the best.

यह कटु (तीखा) पाक में, उष्ण (गर्म) वीर्य में, शोषक (सूखाने वाला) और छेदन (काटने वाला) होता है। इनमें जो शिलाजतु काला, भारी, स्निग्ध (चिकना) और बिना कणों वाला होता है, वह श्रेष्ठ माना गया है।

The one that has the smell of cow urine is also considered the best. When infused with the decoction of potent herbs, it removes the bodily doshas when taken at sunrise.

जिसमें गोमूत्र की गंध होती है, उसे भी श्रेष्ठ माना जाता है। जब इसे सारगण के क्वाथ से भावित किया जाता है, तो यह दिनोदय (सुबह) में सेवन करने पर दोषों को हरण कर लेता है।
