तं सात्यजन्नदीतोये कृच्छ्राल्लोकस्य बिभ्यती । प्रपितामहस्तामुवाह पाण्डुर्वै सत्यविक्रमः ॥ ९-२४-३६ ॥
Because Kuntī feared people’s criticisms, with great difficulty she had to give up her affection for her child. Unwillingly, she packed the child in a basket and let it float down the waters of the river. O Mahārāja Parīkṣit, your great-grandfather the pious and chivalrous King Pāṇḍu later married Kuntī. ॥ 9-24-36 ॥

चूँकि कुन्ती लोगों की आलोचनाओं से भयभीत थी अतएव उसे बड़ी कठिनाई से पुत्र-स्नेह छोडऩा पड़ा। अनचाहे उसने बालक को एक मंजूषा (टोकरी) में बन्द करके नदी के जल में प्रवाहित कर दिया। हे महाराज परीक्षित, बाद में पवित्र तथा पराक्रमी तुम्हारे बाबा पाण्डु ने कुन्ती से विवाह कर लिया। ॥ ९-२४-३६ ॥

श्रुतदेवां तु कारूषो वृद्धशर्मा समग्रहीत् । यस्यामभूद्दन्तवक्त्रः ऋषिशप्तो दितेः सुतः ॥ ९-२४-३७ ॥
Vṛddhaśarmā, the King of Karūṣa, married Kuntī’s sister Śrutadevā, and from her womb Dantavakra was born. Having been cursed by the sages headed by Sanaka, Dantavakra had formerly been born as the son of Diti named Hiraṇyākṣa. ॥ 9-24-37 ॥

करूष के राजा वृद्धशर्मा ने कुन्ती की बहन श्रुतदेवा के साथ विवाह किया और उसके गर्भ से दन्तवक्र उत्पन्न हुआ। सनकादि मुनियों से शापित होने के कारण दन्तवक्र पूर्वजन्म में दिति के पुत्र हिरण्याक्ष के रूप में उत्पन्न हुआ था। ॥ ९-२४-३७ ॥

कैकेयो धृष्टकेतुश्च श्रुतकीर्तिमविन्दत । सन्तर्दनादयस्तस्यां पञ्चासन् कैकयाः सुताः ॥ ९-२४-३८ ॥
King Dhṛṣṭaketu, the King of Kekaya, married Śrutakīrti, another sister of Kuntī’s. Śrutakīrti had five sons, headed by Santardana. ॥ 9-24-38 ॥

केकयराज धृष्टकेतु ने कुन्ती की अन्य बहिन श्रुतकीर्ति के साथ विवाह किया। श्रुतकीर्ति के सन्तर्दन इत्यादि पाँच पुत्र उत्पन्न हुए। ॥ ९-२४-३८ ॥

राजाधिदेव्यामावन्त्यौ जयसेनोऽजनिष्ट ह । दमघोषश्चेदिराजः श्रुतश्रवसमग्रहीत् ॥ ९-२४-३९ ॥
Through the womb of Rājādhidevī, another sister of Kuntī’s, Jayasena begot two sons, named Vinda and Anuvinda. Similarly, the king of the Cedi state married Śrutaśravā. This king’s name was Damaghoṣa. ॥ 9-24-39 ॥

कुन्ती की अन्य बहन राजाधिदेवी के गर्भ से जयसेन ने विन्द तथा अनुविन्द नामक दो पुत्रों को जन्म दिया। इसी प्रकार चेदि राज्य के राजा दमघोष ने श्रुतश्रवा से विवाह किया। ॥ ९-२४-३९ ॥

शिशुपालः सुतस्तस्याः कथितस्तस्य सम्भवः । देवभागस्य कंसायां चित्रकेतुबृहद्बलौ ॥ ९-२४-४० ॥
The son of Śrutaśravā was Śiśupāla, whose birth has already been described [in the Seventh Canto of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam]. Vasudeva’s brother named Devabhāga had two sons born of his wife, Kaṁsā. These two sons were Citraketu and Bṛhadbala. ॥ 9-24-40 ॥

श्रुतश्रवा का पुत्र शिशुपाल था जिसके जन्म का वर्णन पहले ही (श्रीमद्भागवत के सातवें स्कन्ध में) किया जा चुका है। वसुदेव के भाई देवभाग की पत्नी कंसा ने दो पुत्रों को जन्म दिया जिनके नाम थे चित्रकेतु तथा बृहद्बल। ॥ ९-२४-४० ॥
