तं सात्यजन्नदीतोये कृच्छ्राल्लोकस्य बिभ्यती । प्रपितामहस्तामुवाह पाण्डुर्वै सत्यविक्रमः ।। ९-२४-३६ ।।

sanskrit

Because Kuntī feared people’s criticisms, with great difficulty she had to give up her affection for her child. Unwillingly, she packed the child in a basket and let it float down the waters of the river. O Mahārāja Parīkṣit, your great-grandfather the pious and chivalrous King Pāṇḍu later married Kuntī. ।। 9-24-36 ।।

english translation

चूँकि कुन्ती लोगों की आलोचनाओं से भयभीत थी अतएव उसे बड़ी कठिनाई से पुत्र-स्नेह छोडऩा पड़ा। अनचाहे उसने बालक को एक मंजूषा (टोकरी) में बन्द करके नदी के जल में प्रवाहित कर दिया। हे महाराज परीक्षित, बाद में पवित्र तथा पराक्रमी तुम्हारे बाबा पाण्डु ने कुन्ती से विवाह कर लिया। ।। ९-२४-३६ ।।
