ओमित्युक्ते यथाधर्ममुपयेमे शकुन्तलाम् । गान्धर्वविधिना राजा देशकालविधानवित् ॥ ९-२०-१६ ॥
When Śakuntalā responded to Mahārāja Duṣmanta’s proposal with silence, the agreement was complete. Then the King, who knew the laws of marriage, immediately married her by chanting the Vedic praṇava [oṁkāra], in accordance with the marriage ceremony as performed among the Gandharvas. ॥ 9-20-16 ॥

जब शकुन्तला महाराज दुष्मन्त के प्रस्ताव पर मौन रही तो सहमति पूर्ण हो गई। तब विवाह के नियमों को जानने वाले राजा ने तुरन्त ही वैदिक प्रणव (ओङ्कार) का उच्चारण किया, जैसा कि गन्धर्वों में विवाह के अवसर पर किया जाता है। ॥ ९-२०-१६ ॥

अमोघवीर्यो राजर्षिर्महिष्यां वीर्यमादधे । श्वोभूते स्वपुरं यातः कालेनासूत सा सुतम् ॥ ९-२०-१७ ॥
King Duṣmanta, who never discharged semen without a result, placed his semen at night in the womb of his Queen, Śakuntalā, and in the morning he returned to his palace. Thereafter, in due course of time, Śakuntalā gave birth to a son. ॥ 9-20-17 ॥

अमोघवीर्य राजा दुष्मन्त ने रात्रि में अपनी रानी शकुन्तला के गर्भ में वीर्य स्थापित किया और प्रात: होते ही अपने महल को लौट गया। तत्पश्चात् समयानुसार शकुन्तला ने एक पुत्र को जन्म दिया। ॥ ९-२०-१७ ॥

कण्वः कुमारस्य वने चक्रे समुचिताः क्रियाः । बद्ध्वा मृगेन्द्रांस्तरसा क्रीडति स्म स बालकः ॥ ९-२०-१८ ॥
In the forest, Kaṇva Muni performed all the ritualistic ceremonies concerning the newborn child. Later, the boy became so powerful that he would capture a lion and play with it. ॥ 9-20-18 ॥

कण्व मुनि ने वन में नवजात शिशु के सारे संस्कार सम्पन्न किये। बाद में यह बालक इतना बलवान बन गया कि वह किसी सिंह को पकड़ कर उसके साथ खेलता था। ॥ ९-२०-१८ ॥

Śakuntalā, the best of beautiful women, along with her son, whose strength was insurmountable and who was a partial expansion of the Supreme Godhead, approached her husband, Duṣmanta. ॥ 9-20-19 ॥

सुन्दरियों में श्रेष्ठ शकुन्तला अपने पुत्र को, जो दुर्दमनीय था तथा भगवान् का अंशावतार था, अपने साथ लेकर अपने पति दुष्मन्त के पास गई। ॥ ९-२०-१९ ॥

When the King refused to accept his wife and son, who were both irreproachable, an unembodied voice spoke from the sky as an omen and was heard by everyone present. ॥ 9-20-20 ॥

जब राजा ने अपनी निर्दोष पत्नी तथा पुत्र दोनों को स्वीकार करने से इनकार कर दिया तो आकाश से शकुन के रूप में एक अदृश्य आवाज सुनाई दी जिसे वहाँ उपस्थित सबों ने सुना। ॥ ९-२०-२० ॥
