Srimad Bhagavatam
अप्रजस्य मनोः पूर्वं वसिष्ठो भगवान् किल । मित्रावरुणयोरिष्टिं प्रजार्थमकरोत्प्रभुः ॥ ९-१-१३ ॥
Manu at first had no sons. Therefore, in order to get a son for him, the great saint Vasiṣṭha, who was very powerful in spiritual knowledge, performed a sacrifice to satisfy the demigods Mitra and Varuṇa. ॥ 9-1-13 ॥
english translation
आरम्भ में मनु के एक भी पुत्र नहीं था। अतएव उसे पुत्रप्राप्ति के लिए आध्यात्मिक ज्ञान में अत्यन्त शक्तिशाली मुनि वसिष्ठ ने मित्र तथा वरुण देवताओं को प्रसन्न करने के लिए एक यज्ञ सम्पन्न किया। ॥ ९-१-१३ ॥
