नैते गुणा न गुणिनो महदादयो ये सर्वे मनः प्रभृतयः सहदेवमर्त्याः । आद्यन्तवन्त उरुगाय विदन्ति हि त्वामेवं विमृश्य सुधियो विरमन्ति शब्दात् ।। ७-९-४९ ।।

Neither the three modes of material nature [sattva-guṇa, rajo-guṇa and tamo-guṇa], nor the predominating deities controlling these three modes, nor the five gross elements, nor the mind, nor the demigods nor the human beings can understand Your Lordship, for they are all subjected to birth and annihilation. Considering this, the spiritually advanced have taken to devotional service. Such wise men hardly bother with Vedic study. Instead, they engage themselves in practical devotional service. ।। 7-9-49 ।।

english translation

न तो प्रकृति के तीन गुण (सतो, रजो तथा तमो), न इन तीनों गुणों के नियामक अधिष्ठाता देव, न पाँच स्थूल तत्त्व, न मन, न देवता, न मनुष्य ही आपको समझ सकते हैं, क्योंकि ये सभी जन्म तथा संहार के वशीभूत रहते हैं। ऐसा विचार करके आध्यात्मिक दृष्टि से प्रगत व्यक्ति भक्ति करने लगे हैं। ऐसे बुद्धिमान व्यक्ति वैदिक अध्ययन की परवाह नहीं करते, निस्सन्देह वे व्यावहारिक भक्ति में अपने आपको लगाते हैं। ।। ७-९-४९ ।।

naite guNA na guNino mahadAdayo ye sarve manaH prabhRtayaH sahadevamartyAH | Adyantavanta urugAya vidanti hi tvAmevaM vimRzya sudhiyo viramanti zabdAt || 7-9-49 ||
