निरूप्यतामिह स्वार्थः कियान् देहभृतोऽसुराः । निषेकादिष्ववस्थासु क्लिश्यमानस्य कर्मभिः ।। ७-७-४६ ।।

sanskrit

My dear friends, O sons of the asuras, the living entity receives different types of bodies according to his previous fruitive activities. Thus he is seen to suffer with reference to his particular body in all conditions of life, beginning with his infusion into the womb. Please tell me, therefore, after full consideration, what is the living entity’s actual interest in fruitive activities, which result in hardship and misery? ।। 7-7-46 ।।

english translation

हे मित्रो, हे असुरपुत्रो, जीव को अपने पूर्वकर्मों के अनुसार नाना प्रकार के शरीर प्राप्त होते हैं। इस तरह वह अपने विशिष्ट जीवन की सभी स्थितियों में—गर्भ में प्रवेश करने से लेकर अपने इस विशेष शरीर तक—कष्ट ही कष्ट भोगता प्रतीत होता है। अतएव तुम लोग पूरी तरह विचार करके मुझे बतलाओ कि जीव का ऐसे सकाम कर्मों में वास्तविक स्वार्थ क्या है, जबकि ये दुख तथा कष्ट प्रदान करने वाले हैं? ।। ७-७-४६ ।।
