यम उवाच अहो अमीषां वयसाधिकानां विपश्यतां लोकविधिं विमोहः । यत्रागतस्तत्र गतं मनुष्यं स्वयं सधर्मा अपि शोचन्त्यपार्थम् ।। ७-२-३७ ।।

sanskrit

Śrī Yamarāja said: Alas, how amazing it is! These persons, who are older than me, have full experience that hundreds and thousands of living entities have taken birth and died. Thus they should understand that they also are apt to die, yet still they are bewildered. The conditioned soul comes from an unknown place and returns after death to that same unknown place. There is no exception to this rule, which is conducted by material nature. Knowing this, why do they uselessly lament? ।। 7-2-37 ।।

english translation

श्री यमराज ने कहा—ओह! यह कितना आश्चर्यजनक है। ये लोग, जो मुझसे वय में बड़े हैं उन्हें अच्छी तरह अनुभव है कि सैकड़ों हजारों जीव जन्म लेते और मरते हैं। इस तरह उन्हें समझना चाहिए कि उन्हें भी मरना है, तो भी वे मोहग्रस्त रहते हैं। बद्धजीव अज्ञात स्थान से आते हैं और मृत्यु के बाद उसी अज्ञात स्थान को लौट जाते हैं। इस नियम का कोई अपवाद नहीं मिलता तो यह जानते हुए भी वे व्यर्थ शोक क्यों करते हैं? ।। ७-२-३७ ।।
