जघन्यो नोत्तमां वृत्तिमनापदि भजेन्नरः । ऋते राजन्यमापत्सु सर्वेषामपि सर्वशः ॥ ७-११-१७ ॥
Except in a time of emergency, lower persons should not accept the occupational duties of those who are higher. When there is such an emergency, of course, everyone but the kṣatriya may accept the means of livelihood of others. ॥ 7-11-17 ॥

आपात्काल के अतिरिक्त निम्न लोगों को उच्च वर्ग के वृत्तिपरक कार्य नहीं करने चाहिए। हाँ, यदि आपात्काल हो तो क्षत्रिय के अतिरिक्त अन्य सभी लोग अन्यों की जीविकाएँ स्वीकार कर सकते हैं। ॥ ७-११-१७ ॥
