राजोवाच व्रतं पुंसवनं ब्रह्मन् भवता यदुदीरितम् । तस्य वेदितुमिच्छामि येन विष्णुः प्रसीदति ।। ६-१९-१ ।।

Mahārāja Parīkṣit said: My dear lord, you have already spoken about the puṁsavana vow. Now I want to hear about it in detail, for I understand that by observing this vow one can please the Supreme Lord, Viṣṇu. ।। 6-19-1 ।।

english translation

महाराज परीक्षित ने कहा—हे प्रभो! आप पुंसवन व्रत के सम्बन्ध में पहले ही बता चुके हैं। अब मैं इसके विषय में विस्तार से सुनना चाहता हूँ क्योंकि मैं समझता हूँ कि इस व्रत का पालन करके भगवान् विष्णु को प्रसन्न किया जा सकता है। ।। ६-१९-१ ।।

श्रीशुक उवाच शुक्ले मार्गशिरे पक्षे योषिद्भर्तुरनुज्ञया । आरभेत व्रतमिदं सार्वकामिकमादितः ‌।। ६-१९-२ ।।

Śukadeva Gosvāmī said: On the first day of the bright fortnight of the month of Agrahāyaṇa [November-December], following the instructions of her husband, a woman should begin this regulative devotional service with a vow of penance, for it can fulfill all one’s desires. Before beginning the worship of Lord Viṣṇu, the woman should hear the story of how the Maruts were born. Under the instructions of qualified brāhmaṇas, ।। 6-19-2 ।।

english translation

शुकदेव गोस्वामी ने कहा—स्त्री को चाहिए कि अगहन मास (नवम्बर-दिसम्बर) के शुक्लपक्ष की प्रतिपदा को अपने पति की अनुमति से इस नैमित्यिक भक्ति को तप के व्रत सहित प्रारम्भ करे क्योंकि इससे सभी मनोकामनाएँ पूरी हो सकती हैं। भगवान् विष्णु की उपासना करने के पूर्व स्त्री को चाहिए कि वह मरुतों के जन्म की कथा को सुने। योग्य ब्राह्मणों के निर्देशानुसार ।। ६-१९-२ ।।

निशम्य मरुतां जन्म ब्राह्मणाननुमन्त्र्य च । स्नात्वा शुक्लदती शुक्ले वसीतालङ्कृताम्बरे । पूजयेत्प्रातराशात्प्राग्भगवन्तं श्रिया सह ।। ६-१९-३ ।।

in the morning she should wash her teeth, bathe, and dress herself with white cloth and ornaments, and before taking breakfast she should worship Lord Viṣṇu and Lakṣmī. ।। 6-19-3 ।।

english translation

वह प्रात:काल अपने दाँत साफ करे, नहाए, श्वेत साड़ी पहने और आभूषण धारण करे और फिर कलेवा करने के पूर्व भगवान् विष्णु तथा लक्ष्मी की पूजा करे। ।। ६-१९-३ ।।

nizamya marutAM janma brAhmaNAnanumantrya ca | snAtvA zukladatI zukle vasItAlaGkRtAmbare | pUjayetprAtarAzAtprAgbhagavantaM zriyA saha || 6-19-3 ||

अलं ते निरपेक्षाय पूर्णकाम नमोऽस्तु ते । महाविभूतिपतये नमः सकलसिद्धये ।। ६-१९-४ ।।

[She should then pray to the Lord as follows.] My dear Lord, You are full in all opulences, but I do not beg You for opulence. I simply offer my respectful obeisances unto You. You are the husband and master of Lakṣmīdevī, the goddess of fortune, who has all opulences. Therefore You are the master of all mystic yoga. I simply offer my obeisances unto You. ।। 6-19-4 ।।

english translation

[तब वह भगवान् की इस प्रकार से प्रार्थना करे]—हे भगवन्! आप समस्त ऐश्वर्यों से पूर्ण हैं किन्तु मैं ऐश्वर्य की कामना नहीं करती हूँ। मैं आपको सहज भाव से सादर नमस्कार करती हूँ। आप उन सम्पत्ति की देवी लक्ष्मी देवी के पति और स्वामी हैं, जो समस्त ऐश्वर्यों से युक्त हैं। आप समस्त योग के स्वामी हैं। मैं आपको केवल नमस्कार करती हूँ। ।। ६-१९-४ ।।

alaM te nirapekSAya pUrNakAma namo'stu te | mahAvibhUtipataye namaH sakalasiddhaye || 6-19-4 ||

यथा त्वं कृपया भूत्या तेजसा महिमौजसा । जुष्ट ईश गुणैः सर्वैस्ततोऽसि भगवान् प्रभुः ।। ६-१९-५ ।।

O my Lord, because You are endowed with causeless mercy, all opulences, all prowess and all glories, strength and transcendental qualities, You are the Supreme Personality of Godhead, the master of everyone. ।। 6-19-5 ।।

english translation

हे भगवन्! आप अहैतुकी कृपा, समस्त ऐश्वर्य, समस्त तेज तथा समस्त महिमा, बल एवं दिव्य गुणों से युक्त होने के कारण हर एक के स्वामी पूर्ण पुरुषोत्तम भगवान् हैं। ।। ६-१९-५ ।।

yathA tvaM kRpayA bhUtyA tejasA mahimaujasA | juSTa Iza guNaiH sarvaistato'si bhagavAn prabhuH || 6-19-5 ||
