स्तम्भयन्नात्मनाऽऽत्मानं यावत्सत्त्वं यथाश्रुतम् । न शशाक समाधातुं मनो मदनवेपितम् ।। ६-१-६२ ।।

sanskrit

As far as possible he patiently tried to remember the instructions of the śāstras not even to see a woman. With the help of this knowledge and his intellect, he tried to control his lusty desires, but because of the force of Cupid within his heart, he failed to control his mind. ।। 6-1-62 ।।

english translation

उसने धैर्यपूर्वक स्त्री को न देखने के शास्त्रों के आदेश स्मरण करने का यथासम्भव प्रयास किया। इस ज्ञान तथा अपनी बुद्धि के बल पर उसने अपनी कामेच्छाओं को वश में करने का प्रयास किया, किन्तु अपने भीतर कामदेव का वेग होने से वह अपने मन को साध न सका। ।। ६-१-६२ ।।
