दिशो वितिमिरालोकाः कुर्वन्तः स्वेन रोचिषा । किमर्थं धर्मपालस्य किङ्करान्नो निषेधथ ॥ ६-१-३६ ॥
Your effulgence has dissipated the darkness of this place with extraordinary illumination. Now, sirs, why are you obstructing us? ॥ 6-1-36 ॥

आपके तेज ने इस स्थान के अंधकार को अपने असामान्य प्रकाश से भगा दिया है। तो महोदय आप हमें क्यों रोक रहे हैं? ॥ ६-१-३६ ॥

श्रीशुक उवाच इत्युक्ते यमदूतैस्तैर्वासुदेवोक्तकारिणः । तान् प्रत्यूचुः प्रहस्येदं मेघनिर्ह्रादया गिरा ॥ ६-१-३७ ॥
Śukadeva Gosvāmī continued: Being thus addressed by the messengers of Yamarāja, the servants of Vāsudeva smiled and spoke the following words in voices as deep as the sound of rumbling clouds. ॥ 6-1-37 ॥

शुकदेव गोस्वामी ने आगे कहा : यमराज के दूतों द्वारा इस प्रकार सम्बोधित किये जाने पर वासुदेव के सेवक मुसकाये और उन्होंने गर्जना करते हुए बादलों की ध्वनि जैसी गम्भीर वाणी में निम्नलिखित शब्द कहे। ॥ ६-१-३७ ॥

विष्णुदूता ऊचुः यूयं वै धर्मराजस्य यदि निर्देशकारिणः । ब्रूत धर्मस्य नस्तत्त्वं यच्च धर्मस्य लक्षणम् ॥ ६-१-३८ ॥
The blessed messengers of Lord Viṣṇu, the Viṣṇudūtas, said: If you are actually servants of Yamarāja, you must explain to us the meaning of religious principles and the symptoms of irreligion. ॥ 6-1-38 ॥

अहोभाग्य विष्णुदूतों ने कहा : यदि तुम लोग सचमुच ही यमराज के सेवक हो तो तुम्हें हमसे धार्मिक सिद्धान्तों के अर्थ तथा अधर्म के लक्षणों की व्याख्या करनी चाहिए। ॥ ६-१-३८ ॥

कथं स्विद्ध्रियते दण्डः किं वास्य स्थानमीप्सितम् । दण्ड्याः किं कारिणः सर्वे आहोस्वित्कतिचिन्नृणाम् ॥ ६-१-३९ ॥
What is the process of punishing others? Who are the actual candidates for punishment? Are all karmīs engaged in fruitive activities punishable, or only some of them? ॥ 6-1-39 ॥

दूसरों को दण्ड देने की विधि क्या है? दण्ड के वास्तविक पात्र कौन हैं? क्या सकाम कर्मों में लगे सारे कर्मी दण्डनीय हैं या उनमें से केवल कुछ ही हैं? ॥ ६-१-३९ ॥

यमदूता ऊचुः वेदप्रणिहितो धर्मो ह्यधर्मस्तद्विपर्ययः । वेदो नारायणः साक्षात्स्वयम्भूरिति शुश्रुम ॥ ६-१-४० ॥
The Yamadūtas replied: That which is prescribed in the Vedas constitutes dharma, the religious principles, and the opposite of that is irreligion. The Vedas are directly the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Nārāyaṇa, and are self-born. This we have heard from Yamarāja. ॥ 6-1-40 ॥

यमदूतों ने उत्तर दिया: जो वेदों द्वारा संस्तुत है, वही धर्म है और इसका विलोम अधर्म है। वेद साक्षात् पूर्ण पुरुषोत्तम भगवान् हैं, नारायण हैं और स्वयं उत्पन्न हुए हैं। हमने यमराज से यह सुना है। ॥ ६-१-४० ॥
