देहवाग्बुद्धिजं धीरा धर्मज्ञाः श्रद्धयान्विताः । क्षिपन्त्यघं महदपि वेणुगुल्ममिवानलः ।। ६-१-१४ ।।

sanskrit

Thus a sober and faithful person who knows the religious principles is temporarily purified of all sins performed with his body, words and mind. These sins are like the dried leaves of creepers beneath a bamboo tree, which may be burned by fire although their roots remain to grow again at the first opportunity. ।। 6-1-14 ।।

english translation

इस तरह धार्मिक सिद्धान्तों को जानने वाला धीर तथा श्रद्धावान् व्यक्ति अपने शरीर, वचन तथा मन से किये गये सारे पापों से अस्थायी रूप से शुद्ध हो जाता है। ये पाप बाँस के पेड़ के नीचे की लतरों की सूखी पत्तियों के समान हैं, जिन्हें अग्नि द्वारा जलाया जा सकता है, यद्यपि उनकी जड़ें अवसर पाते ही फिर से उगने के लिए शेष बची रहती हैं। ।। ६-१-१४ ।।
