अन्यथा कर्म कुर्वाणो मानारूढो निबध्यते । गुणप्रवाहपतितो नष्टप्रज्ञो व्रजत्यधः ।। ४-२६-८ ।।

Otherwise, a person who acts whimsically falls down due to false prestige. Thus he becomes involved in the laws of nature, which are composed of the three qualities [goodness, passion and ignorance]. In this way a living entity becomes devoid of his real intelligence and becomes perpetually lost in the cycle of birth and death. Thus he goes up and down from a microbe in stool to a high position in the Brahmaloka planet. ।। 4-26-8 ।।

english translation

अन्यथा जो मनुष्य मनमाना कर्म करता है, वह मिथ्या अभिमान के कारण नीचे गिर जाता है और इस तरह प्रकृति के तीनों गुणों में फँस जाता है। इस प्रकार से जीव अपनी वास्तविक बुद्धि से रहित हो जाता है और जन्म-मृत्यु के चक्र में सदा-सदा के लिए खो जाता है। इस प्रकार वह मल के एक सूक्ष्म जीवाणु से लेकर ब्रह्मलोक में उच्च पद तक ऊपर-नीचे आता-जाता रहता है। ।। ४-२६-८ ।।
