सूत उवाच वैयासकेरिति वचस्तत्त्वनिश्चयमात्मनः । उपधार्य मतिं कृष्णे औत्तरेयः सतीं व्यधात् ।। २-४-१ ।।

sanskrit

Sūta Gosvāmī said: Mahārāja Parīkṣit, the son of Uttarā, after hearing the speeches of Śukadeva Gosvāmī, which were all about the truth of the self, applied his concentration faithfully upon Lord Kṛṣṇa. ।। 2-4-1 ।।

आत्मजायासुतागारपशुद्रविणबन्धुषु । राज्ये चाविकले नित्यं विरूढां ममतां जहौ ।। २-४-२ ।।

sanskrit

Mahārāja Parīkṣit, as a result of his wholehearted attraction for Lord Kṛṣṇa, was able to give up all deep-rooted affection for his personal body, his wife, his children, his palace, his animals like horses and elephants, his treasury house, his friends and relatives, and his undisputed kingdom. ।। 2-4-2 ।।

पप्रच्छ चेममेवार्थं यन्मां पृच्छथ सत्तमाः । कृष्णानुभावश्रवणे श्रद्दधानो महामनाः ।। २-४-३ ।।

O great sages, the great soul Mahārāja Parīkṣit, constantly rapt in thought of Lord Kṛṣṇa. ।। 2-4-3 ।।

संस्थां विज्ञाय सन्न्यस्य कर्म त्रैवर्गिकं च यत् । वासुदेवे भगवति आत्मभावं दृढं गतः ।। २-४-४ ।।

Knowing well of his imminent death, renounced all sorts of fruitive activities, namely acts of religion, economic development and sense gratification, and thus fixed himself firmly in his natural love for Kṛṣṇa and asked all these questions, exactly as you are asking me. ।। 2-4-4 ।।

राजोवाच समीचीनं वचो ब्रह्मन् सर्वज्ञस्य तवानघ । तमो विशीर्यते मह्यं हरेः कथयतः कथाम् ।। २-४-५ ।।

Mahārāja Parīkṣit said: O learned brāhmaṇa, you know everything because you are without material contamination. Therefore whatever you have spoken to me appears perfectly right. Your speeches are gradually destroying the darkness of my ignorance, for you are narrating the topics of the Lord. ।। 2-4-5 ।।
