यदात्मनि निरालोकमात्मानं च दिदृक्षतः । निर्भिन्ने ह्यक्षिणी तस्य ज्योतिश्चक्षुर्गुणग्रहः ॥ २-१०-२१ ॥
Thus when everything existed in darkness, the Lord desired to see Himself and all that was created. Then the eyes, the illuminating god Sun, the power of vision and the object of sight all became manifested. ॥ 2-10-21 ॥

इस प्रकार जब सारी वस्तुएँ अन्धकार में विद्यमान थीं तो भगवान् की अपने आपको तथा जो कुछ उन्होंने रचा था, उन सबको देखने की इच्छा हुई। तब आँखें, प्रकाशमान सूर्यदेव, देखने की शक्ति तथा दिखने वाली वस्तु—ये सभी प्रकट हुईं। ॥ २-१०-२१ ॥

बोध्यमानस्य ऋषिभिरात्मनस्तज्जिघृक्षतः । कर्णौ च निरभिद्येतां दिशः श्रोत्रं गुणग्रहः ॥ २-१०-२२ ॥
By development of the desire of the great sages to know, the ears, the power of hearing, the controlling deity of hearing, and the objects of hearing became manifested. The great sages desired to hear about the Self. ॥ 2-10-22 ॥

महान् ऋषियों द्वारा जानने की इच्छा विकसित होने से कान, सुनने की शक्ति, सुनने के अधिष्ठाता देव तथा सुनने की वस्तुएँ प्रकट हुईं। ऋषिगण आत्मा के विषय में सुनना चाह रहे थे। ॥ २-१०-२२ ॥

वस्तुनो मृदुकाठिन्यलघुगुर्वोष्णशीतताम् । जिघृक्षतस्त्वङ् निर्भिन्ना तस्यां रोममहीरुहाः । तत्र चान्तर्बहिर्वातस्त्वचा लब्धगुणो वृतः ॥ २-१०-२३ ॥
When there was a desire to perceive the physical characteristics of matter, such as softness, hardness, warmth, cold, lightness and heaviness, the background of sensation, the skin, the skin pores, the hairs on the body and their controlling deities (the trees) were generated. Within and outside the skin is a covering of air through which sense perception became prominent. ॥ 2-10-23 ॥

जब पदार्थ के भौतिक गुणों—यथा कोमलता, कठोरता, उष्णता, शीतलता, हल्कापन तथा भारीपन—को देखने की इच्छा हुई तो अनुभूति की पृष्ठभूमि त्वचा, त्वचा के छिद्र, रोम तथा उनके अधिष्ठाता देवों (वृक्षों) की उत्पत्ति हुई। त्वचा के भीतर तथा बाहर वायु की खोल है, जिसके माध्यम से स्पर्श का अनुभव होने लगा। ॥ २-१०-२३ ॥

हस्तौ रुरुहतुस्तस्य नानाकर्मचिकीर्षया । तयोस्तु बलमिन्द्रश्च आदानमुभयाश्रयम् ॥ २-१०-२४ ॥
Thereafter when the Supreme Person desired to perform varieties of work, the two hands and their controlling strength, and Indra, the demigod in heaven, became manifested, as also the acts dependent on both the hands and the demigod. ॥ 2-10-24 ॥

तत्पश्चात् जब परम पुरुष को नाना प्रकार के कार्य करने की इच्छा हुई तो दो हाथ तथा उनकी नियामक शक्ति एवं स्वर्ग के देवता इन्द्र के साथ ही दोनों हाथों तथा देवता पर आश्रित कार्य भी प्रकट हुए। ॥ २-१०-२४ ॥

गतिं जिगीषतः पादौ रुरुहातेऽभिकामिकाम् । पद्भ्यां यज्ञः स्वयं हव्यं कर्मभिः क्रियते नृभिः ॥ २-१०-२५ ॥
Thereupon, because of His desiring to control movement, His legs became manifested, and from the legs the controlling deity named Viṣṇu was generated. By His personal supervision of this act, all varieties of human being are busily engaged in dutiful occupational sacrifice. ॥ 2-10-25 ॥

तत्पश्चात् गति (इधर उधर चलना) को नियन्त्रित करने की इच्छा से उनकी टाँगें प्रकट हुईं और टाँगों से उनके अधिष्ठाता देव विष्णु की उत्पत्ति हुई। इस कार्य की स्वयं विष्णु द्वारा निगरानी करने से सभी प्रकार के मनुष्य अपने-अपने निर्धारित यज्ञों (कार्यों) में संलग्न हैं। ॥ २-१०-२५ ॥
