Srimad Bhagavatam
क्षीणायुषः क्षीणसत्त्वान् दुर्मेधान् वीक्ष्य कालतः । वेदान् ब्रह्मर्षयो व्यस्यन् हृदिस्थाच्युतचोदिताः ॥ १२-६-४७ ॥
Observing that people in general were diminished in their life span, strength and intelligence by the influence of time, great sages took inspiration from the Personality of Godhead sitting within their hearts and systematically divided the Vedas. ॥ 12-6-47 ॥
english translation
यह देखते हुए कि समय के प्रभाव से आम तौर पर लोगों की आयु, शक्ति और बुद्धि कम हो गई है, महान ऋषियों ने अपने हृदय में बैठे भगवान से प्रेरणा ली और वेदों को व्यवस्थित रूप से विभाजित किया। ॥ १२-६-४७ ॥
