दूरे वार्ययनं तीर्थं लावण्यं केशधारणम् । उदरम्भरता स्वार्थः सत्यत्वे धार्ष्ट्यमेव हि ॥ १२-२-६ ॥
A sacred place will be taken to consist of no more than a reservoir of water located at a distance, and beauty will be thought to depend on one’s hairstyle. Filling the belly will become the goal of life, and one who is audacious will be accepted as truthful. ॥ 12-2-6 ॥

एक पवित्र स्थान को दूरी पर स्थित पानी के जलाशय से अधिक नहीं माना जाएगा, और सुंदरता को किसी के केश विन्यास पर निर्भर माना जाएगा। पेट भरना ही जीवन का लक्ष्य बन जायेगा और जो दुस्साहस करेगा वह सच्चा मान लिया जायेगा। ॥ १२-२-६ ॥

दाक्ष्यं कुटुम्बभरणं यशोऽर्थे धर्मसेवनम् । एवं प्रजाभिर्दुष्टाभिराकीर्णे क्षितिमण्डले ॥ १२-२-७ ॥
He who can maintain a family will be regarded as an expert man, and the principles of religion will be observed only for the sake of reputation. As the earth thus becomes crowded with a corrupt population, ॥ 12-2-7 ॥

जो परिवार का भरण-पोषण कर सकता है, वह एक विशेषज्ञ व्यक्ति माना जाएगा, और धर्म के सिद्धांतों का पालन केवल प्रतिष्ठा के लिए किया जाएगा। जैसे-जैसे पृथ्वी भ्रष्ट जनसंख्या से भर जाती है, ॥ १२-२-७ ॥

ब्रह्मविट्क्षत्रशूद्राणां यो बली भविता नृपः । प्रजा हि लुब्धै राजन्यैर्निर्घृणैर्दस्युधर्मभिः ॥ १२-२-८ ॥
whoever among any of the social classes shows himself to be the strongest will gain political power. Losing their wives and properties to such avaricious and merciless rulers, ॥ 12-2-8 ॥

किसी भी सामाजिक वर्ग में से जो कोई भी खुद को सबसे मजबूत दिखाएगा उसे राजनीतिक शक्ति हासिल होगी। ऐसे लोभी और निर्दयी शासकों के हाथों अपनी पत्नियों और संपत्तियों को खोना, ॥ १२-२-८ ॥

आच्छिन्नदारद्रविणा यास्यन्ति गिरिकाननम् । शाकमूलामिषक्षौद्रफलपुष्पाष्टिभोजनाः ॥ १२-२-९ ॥
who will behave no better than ordinary thieves, the citizens will flee to the mountains and forests. Harassed by famine and excessive taxes, people will resort to eating leaves, roots, flesh, wild honey, fruits, flowers and seeds. ॥ 12-2-9 ॥

जो सामान्य चोरों से बेहतर व्यवहार नहीं करेगा, नागरिक पहाड़ों और जंगलों की ओर भाग जाएंगे। अकाल और अत्यधिक करों से परेशान लोग पत्ते, जड़, मांस, जंगली शहद, फल, फूल और बीज खाने लगेंगे। ॥ १२-२-९ ॥

अनावृष्ट्या विनङ्क्ष्यन्ति दुर्भिक्षकरपीडिताः । शीतवातातपप्रावृड् हिमैरन्योन्यतः प्रजाः ॥ १२-२-१० ॥
Struck by drought, they will become completely ruined. The citizens will suffer greatly from cold, wind, heat, rain and snow. ॥ 12-2-10 ॥

सूखे की मार से वे पूरी तरह बर्बाद हो जायेंगे. सर्दी, हवा, गर्मी, बारिश और बर्फ से नागरिकों को बहुत कष्ट होगा। ॥ १२-२-१० ॥
