ज्ञात्वा ज्ञातिवधं गर्ह्यमधर्मं राज्यहेतुकम् । ततो निवृत्तो हन्ताहं हतोऽयमिति लौकिकः ॥ ११-१६-७ ॥
On the Battlefield of Kurukṣetra Arjuna thought that killing his relatives would be an abominable, irreligious activity, motivated only by his desire to acquire a kingdom. He therefore desisted from the battle, thinking, “I would be the killer of my relatives. They would be destroyed.” Thus Arjuna was afflicted with mundane consciousness. ॥ 11-16-7 ॥

कुरुक्षेत्र के युद्धक्षेत्र में अर्जुन ने सोचा कि अपने रिश्तेदारों को मारना एक घृणित, अधार्मिक गतिविधि होगी, जो केवल राज्य प्राप्त करने की उसकी इच्छा से प्रेरित है। इसलिए वह यह सोचकर युद्ध से विमुख हो गया, “मैं अपने रिश्तेदारों का हत्यारा बनूंगा।” वे नष्ट हो जायेंगे।” इस प्रकार अर्जुन सांसारिक चेतना से पीड़ित था। ॥ ११-१६-७ ॥
