तएतऋषयो वेदं स्वं स्वं व्यस्यन्ननेकधा । शिष्यैः प्रशिष्यैस्तच्छिष्यैर्वेदास्ते शाखिनोऽभवन् ।। १-४-२३ ।।

All these learned scholars, in their turn, rendered their entrusted Vedas unto their many disciples, granddisciples and great-granddisciples, and thus the respective branches of the followers of the Vedas came into being. ।। 1-4-23 ।।

english translation

इन सब विद्वानों ने अपनी पारी में, उन्हें सौंपे गये वेदों को अपने अनेक शिष्यों, प्रशिष्यों तथा उनके भी शिष्यों को प्रदान किया और इस प्रकार वेदों के अनुयायियों की अपनी- अपनी शाखाएँ बनीं। ।। १-४-२३ ।।
