वदन्तितत्तत्त्वविदस्तत्त्वंयज्ज्ञानमद्वयम् । ब्रह्मेतिपरमात्मेतिभगवानितिशब्द्यते ॥ १-२-११ ॥
The learned souls say that the reality of nondual knowledge is known as Brahman, Paramâtmâ and Bhagavân [the impersonal, localized and personal aspect]. ॥ 1-2-11 ॥

परम सत्य को जानने वाले विद्वान अध्यात्मवादी (तत्त्वविद) इस अद्वय तत्त्व को ब्रह्म, परमात्मा या भगवान् के नाम से पुकारते हैं। ॥ १-२-११ ॥

तच्छ्रद्दधानामुनयो ज्ञानवैराग्ययुक्तया । पश्यन्त्यात्मनिचात्मानं भक्त्याश्रुतगृहीतया ॥ १-२-१२ ॥
Sages [and devotees] well equipped with knowledge and detachment who are full of belief, will perceive within their heart and soul [that reality] according to their understanding of what they heard [or read about] in their devotion. ॥ 1-2-12 ॥

ज्ञान तथा वैराग्य से समन्वित गम्भीर जिज्ञासु या मुनि, वेदान्त-श्रुति के श्रवण से ग्रहण की हुई भक्ति द्वारा परम सत्य की अनुभूति करता है। ॥ १-२-१२ ॥

अतःपुम्भिर्द्विजश्रेष्ठा वर्णाश्रमविभागशः । स्वनुष्ठितस्यधर्मस्य संसिद्धिर्हरितोषणम् ॥ १-२-१३ ॥
This is how the human being, oh best of the twice-born souls, by pleasing the Lord achieves the highest perfection with his own dutifulness according to the divisions of status and vocation [varnâs'rama]. ॥ 1-2-13 ॥
english translation
अत: हे द्विजश्रेष्ठ, निष्कर्ष यह निकलता है कि वर्णाश्रम धर्म के अनुसार अपने कर्तव्यों को पूरा करने से जो परम सिद्धि प्राप्त हो सकती है, वह है भगवान् को प्रसन्न करना। ॥ १-२-१३ ॥

तस्मादेकेनमनसा भगवान्सात्वतांपतिः । श्रोतव्यःकीर्तितव्यश्च ध्येयःपूज्यश्चनित्यदा ॥ १-२-१४ ॥
One should therefore with a one-pointed mind constantly hear about, glorify, remember and worship the Supreme Lord, the protector of the devotees. ॥ 1-2-14 ॥

अतएव मनुष्य को एकाग्रचित से उन पूर्ण पुरुषोत्तम भगवान् के विषय में निरन्तर श्रवण, कीर्तन, स्मरण तथा पूजन करना चाहिए, जो भक्तों के रक्षक हैं। ॥ १-२-१४ ॥

यदनुध्यासिनायुक्ताः कर्मग्रन्थिनिबन्धनम् । छिन्दन्तिकोविदास्तस्य कोनकुर्यात्कथारतिम् ॥ १-२-१५ ॥
Who would not attend to this message of intelligently remembering the Lord that offers one the sword for cutting through the bonds of materially motivated labor [karma]? ॥ 1-2-15 ॥

हाथ में तलवार लिए बुद्धिमान मनुष्य भगवान् का स्मरण करते हुए कर्म की बँधी हुई ग्रंथि को काट देते हैं। अतएव ऐसा कौन होगा जो उनके सन्देश की ओर ध्यान नहीं देगा? ॥ १-२-१५ ॥
