अन्ये च देवर्षिब्रह्मर्षिवर्या राजर्षिवर्या अरुणादयश्च । नानार्षेयप्रवरान् समेतानभ्यर्च्य राजा शिरसा ववन्दे ॥ १-१९-११ ॥
There were also many other saintly demigods, kings and special royal orders called aruṇādayas [a special rank of rājarṣis] from different dynasties of sages. When they all assembled together to meet the Emperor [Parīkṣit], he received them properly and bowed his head to the ground. ॥ 1-19-11 ॥

इनके अतिरिक्त वहाँ अन्य अनेक देवर्षि, राजा तथा विभिन्न मुनियों के वंशज विशिष्ट राजा आये थे, जिन्हें अरुणादय कहा जाता है। जब वे सब सम्राट (परीक्षित) से मिलने के लिए एकत्र हुए, तो राजा ने सबको शीश नमाकर प्रणाम करते हुए समुचित ढंग से उनका स्वागत किया। ॥ १-१९-११ ॥

सुखोपविष्टेष्वथ तेषु भूयः कृतप्रणामः स्वचिकीर्षितं यत् । विज्ञापयामास विविक्तचेता उपस्थितोऽग्रेऽभिगृहीतपाणिः ॥ १-१९-१२ ॥
After all the ṛṣis and others had seated themselves comfortably, the King, humbly standing before them with folded hands, told them of his decision to fast until death. ॥ 1-19-12 ॥

जब सारे ऋषियों तथा अन्य लोगों ने सुखपूर्वक आसन ग्रहण कर लिया, तो उनके समक्ष हाथ जोडक़र खड़े हुए राजा ने आमरण व्रत करने का अपना संकल्प बतलाया। ॥ १-१९-१२ ॥

राजोवाच अहो वयं धन्यतमा नृपाणां महत्तमानुग्रहणीयशीलाः । राज्ञां कुलं ब्राह्मणपादशौचाद्दूराद्विसृष्टं बत गर्ह्यकर्म ॥ १-१९-१३ ॥
The fortunate King said: Indeed, we are the most grateful of all the kings who are trained to get favors from the great souls. Generally you [sages] consider royalty as refuse to be rejected and left in a distant place. ॥ 1-19-13 ॥
english translation
भाग्यशाली राजा ने कहा : निस्संदेह, मैं समस्त राजाओं में अत्यन्त धन्य हूँ, जो आप जैसे महापुरुषों का अनुग्रह प्राप्त करने के अभ्यस्त हैं। सामान्यतया, आप (ऋषि) लोग राजाओं को किसी दूर स्थान में फेंका जाने योग्य कूड़ा समझते हैं। ॥ १-१९-१३ ॥

तस्यैव मेऽघस्य परावरेशो व्यासक्तचित्तस्य गृहेष्वभीक्ष्णम् । निर्वेदमूलो द्विजशापरूपो यत्र प्रसक्तो भयमाशु धत्ते ॥ १-१९-१४ ॥
The Supreme Personality of Godhead, the controller of both the transcendental and mundane worlds, has graciously overtaken me in the form of a brāhmaṇa’s curse. Due to my being too much attached to family life, the Lord, in order to save me, has appeared before me in such a way that only out of fear I will detach myself from the world. ॥ 1-19-14 ॥

आध्यात्मिक तथा प्राकृत जगतों के नियन्ता भगवान् ने ब्राह्मण-शाप के रूप में मुझ पर अत्यन्त कृपा की है। गृहस्थ जीवन में अत्यधिक आसक्त रहने के कारण, मुझे बचाने के लिए भगवान् मेरे समक्ष इस तरह प्रकट हुए हैं कि मैं भयवश अपने आपको संसार से विरक्त कर लूँ। ॥ १-१९-१४ ॥

तं मोपयातं प्रतियन्तु विप्रा गङ्गा च देवी धृतचित्तमीशे । द्विजोपसृष्टः कुहकस्तक्षको वा दशत्वलं गायत विष्णुगाथाः ॥ १-१९-१५ ॥
O brāhmaṇas, just accept me as a completely surrendered soul, and let mother Ganges, the representative of the Lord, also accept me in that way, for I have already taken the lotus feet of the Lord into my heart. Let the snake-bird — or whatever magical thing the brāhmaṇa created — bite me at once. I only desire that you all continue singing the deeds of Lord Viṣṇu. ॥ 1-19-15 ॥

हे ब्राह्मणों, आप मुझे पूर्ण रूप से शरणागत के रूप में स्वीकार करें और भगवान् की प्रतिनिधि-स्वरूपा माँ गंगा भी मुझे इसी रूप में स्वीकार करें, क्योंकि मैं पहले से अपने हृदय में भगवान् के चरणकमलों को धारण किये हूँ। अब चाहे तक्षक नाग, या ब्राह्मण द्वारा उत्पन्न कोई भी चमत्कारी वस्तु, मुझे तुरन्त डस ले। मेरी एकमात्र इच्छा यह है कि आप सब भगवान् विष्णु की लीलाओं का गायन करते रहें। ॥ १-१९-१५ ॥
