अहस्तानि सहस्तानामपदानि चतुष्पदाम् । फल्गूनि तत्र महतां जीवो जीवस्य जीवनम् ॥ १-१३-४६ ॥
Those who are devoid of hands are prey for those who have hands; those devoid of legs are prey for the four-legged. The weak are the subsistence of the strong, and the general rule holds that one living being is food for another. ॥ 1-13-46 ॥

जो बिना हाथ वाले हैं, वे हाथ वालों के शिकार हैं। जो पाँवों से विहीन हैं, वे चौपायों के शिकार हैं। निर्बल सबल के भोज्य हैं और सामान्य नियम यह है कि एक जीव दूसरे जीव का भोजन बना हुआ है। ॥ १-१३-४६ ॥

तदिदं भगवान् राजन्नेक आत्माऽऽत्मनां स्वदृक् । अन्तरोऽनन्तरो भाति पश्य तं माययोरुधा ॥ १-१३-४७ ॥
Therefore, O King, you should look to the Supreme Lord only, who is one without a second and who manifests Himself by different energies and is both within and without. ॥ 1-13-47 ॥

अतएव हे राजन्, तुम्हें एकमात्र परमेश्वर को देखना चाहिए, जो अद्वितीय हैं और जो विभिन्न शक्तियों से साक्षात् प्रकट होते हैं और भीतर तथा बाहर दोनों में हैं। ॥ १-१३-४७ ॥

सोऽयमद्य महाराज भगवान् भूतभावनः । कालरूपोऽवतीर्णोऽस्यामभावाय सुरद्विषाम् ॥ १-१३-४८ ॥
That Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa, in the guise of all-devouring time [kāla-rūpa] has now descended to the earth to eliminate the envious from the world. ॥ 1-13-48 ॥

वे ही पूर्ण पुरुषोत्तम भगवान् श्रीकृष्ण, सर्वभक्षी काल के वेश (कालरूप) में, अब संसार से द्वेषी लोगों का सर्वनाश करने के लिए पृथ्वी पर अवतरित हुए हैं। ॥ १-१३-४८ ॥

निष्पादितं देवकृत्यमवशेषं प्रतीक्षते । तावद्यूयमवेक्षध्वं भवेद्यावदिहेश्वरः ॥ १-१३-४९ ॥
The Lord has already performed His duties to help the demigods, and He is awaiting the rest. You Pāṇḍavas may wait as long as the Lord is here on earth. ॥ 1-13-49 ॥

भगवान् ने देवताओं की सहायता करने का अपना कर्तव्य पहले ही पूरा कर दिया है और जो शेष है, उसके लिए वे प्रतीक्षारत हैं। आप सभी पाण्डव तब तक प्रतीक्षा कर सकते हो, जब तक भगवान् इस धरा पर उपस्थित हैं। ॥ १-१३-४९ ॥

धृतराष्ट्रः सह भ्रात्रा गान्धार्या च स्वभार्यया । दक्षिणेन हिमवत ऋषीणामाश्रमं गतः ॥ १-१३-५० ॥
O King, your uncle Dhṛtarāṣṭra, his brother Vidura and his wife Gāndhārī have gone to the southern side of the Himālaya Mountains, where there are shelters of the great sages. ॥ 1-13-50 ॥

हे राजन्, आपके चाचा धृतराष्ट्र, उनके भाई विदुर तथा उनकी पत्नी गांधारी, हिमालय के दक्षिण की ओर गये हैं, जिधर बड़े-बड़े ऋषियों के आश्रम हैं। ॥ १-१३-५० ॥
