उपमन्युरुवाच ॥ अतः परं प्रवक्ष्यामि शिवाश्रमनिषेविणाम् ॥ शिवशास्त्रोक्तमार्गेण नैमित्तिकविधिक्रमम् ॥ १ ॥
Upamanyu said:— Now I shall explain the procedure of rites under certain conditions to be performed by those who follow the Śaivite conduct of life in the manner prescribed in the Śaivite scriptures.
english translation
upamanyuruvAca ॥ ataH paraM pravakSyAmi zivAzramaniSeviNAm ॥ zivazAstroktamArgeNa naimittikavidhikramam ॥ 1 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसर्वेष्वपि च मासेषु पक्षयोरुभयोरपि ॥ अष्टाभ्यां च चतुर्दश्यां तथा पर्वाणि च क्रमात् ॥ २ ॥
In all the months, in both the fortnights and the fortnights, The eighth and fourteenth days of the month are also celebrated in this order.

sarveSvapi ca mAseSu pakSayorubhayorapi ॥ aSTAbhyAM ca caturdazyAM tathA parvANi ca kramAt ॥ 2 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअयने विषुवे चैव ग्रहणेषु विशेषतः ॥ कर्तव्या महती पूजा ह्यधिका वापि शक्तितः ॥ ३ ॥
Especially during the eclipses of the moon and the equinox. Great worship should be performed even if it is more than one can afford.

ayane viSuve caiva grahaNeSu vizeSataH ॥ kartavyA mahatI pUjA hyadhikA vApi zaktitaH ॥ 3 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptमासिमासि यथान्यायं ब्रह्मकूर्चं प्रसाध्य तु ॥ स्नापयित्वा शिवं तेन पिबेच्छेषमुपोषितः ॥ ४ ॥
Every month he shall observe fast for a day and prepare Brahmakūrca. He shall perform the ablution of Śiva thereby and drink the residue.

mAsimAsi yathAnyAyaM brahmakUrcaM prasAdhya tu ॥ snApayitvA zivaM tena pibeccheSamupoSitaH ॥ 4 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptब्रह्महत्यादिदोषाणामतीव महतामपि ॥ निष्कृतिर्ब्रह्मकूर्चस्य पानान्नान्या विशिष्यते ॥ ५ ॥
The atonement for the murder of a brahmin and other great sins is the drinking of Brahmakūrca. There is no better remedy.

brahmahatyAdidoSANAmatIva mahatAmapi ॥ niSkRtirbrahmakUrcasya pAnAnnAnyA viziSyate ॥ 5 ॥
