श्रद्धा मय्यस्ति चेत्पुंसां येन केनापि हेतुना ॥ वश्यः स्पृश्यश्च दृश्यश्च पूज्यस्संभाष्य एव च ॥ १६ ॥
If men have faith in me I can be brought under control, be touched, seen, worshipped and spoken to by some means or other.
english translation
साध्या तस्मान्मयि शद्धा मां वशीकर्तुमिच्छता ॥ श्रद्धा हेतुस्स्वधर्मस्य रक्षणं वर्णिनामिह ॥ १७ ॥
Therefore it is possible for one who wishes to subdue Me to be faithful to Me. Faith is the cause of the protection of one’s own religious duties in this world by the varṇas.
english translation
स्ववर्णाश्रमधर्मेण वर्तते यस्तु मानवः ॥ तस्यैव भवति श्रद्धा मयि नान्यस्य कस्यचित् ॥ १८ ॥
A human being who lives according to the religious duties of his own caste and āśrama He alone has faith in Me and no one else.
english translation
आम्नायसिद्धमखिलं धर्ममाश्रमिणामिह ॥ ब्रह्मणा कथितं पूर्वं ममैवाज्ञापुरस्सरम् ॥ १९ ॥
At my bidding, the duties as derived from the Vedas of the various stages in life were mentioned formerly by Brahmā.
english translation
स तु पैतामहो धर्मो बहुवित्तक्रियान्वितः ॥ नात्यन्त फलभूयिष्ठः क्लेशाया ससमन्वितः ॥ तेन धर्मेण महतां श्रद्धां प्राप्य सुदुर्ल्लभाम् ॥ २० ॥
That great-grandfather Dharma was endowed with many wealth and activities. It is not very fruitful and is accompanied by suffering By virtue of that religious principle I attained the rare faith of great men.
