वायुरुवाच ॥ अथ सर्वे प्रदीप्तांगा वैकुण्ठं प्रययुर्द्रुतम् ॥ प्रणम्याहुश्च तत्सर्वं हरये देवसत्तमाः ॥ १ ॥
Vāyu said:— Then the excellent gods with their bodies illuminated hastened to Vaikuṇṭha. After bowing they mentioned everything to Viṣṇu.
english translation
श्रुत्वा तेषां तदा वाक्यं भगवान्पुरुषोत्तमः ॥ किमिदन्त्विति संचिन्त्य ज्ञात्वा तत्कारणं च सः ॥ २ ॥
At that time Lord Śiva, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, heard the words of the demigods. He thought about what they were and knew the reason for it.
english translation
जगाम मन्दरं तूर्णं महेश्वरदिदृक्षया ॥ दृष्ट्वा देवं प्रणम्यैवं प्रोवाच सुकृतांजलिः ॥ ३ ॥
In order to see Lord Maheśvara, he at once went to Mandara mountain. Seeing the god he bowed down to him and with folded hands spoke thus.

विष्णुरुवाच ॥ भगवन्ब्राह्मणः कश्चिदुपमन्युरिति श्रुतः ॥ क्षीरार्थमदहत्सर्वं तपसा तन्निवारय ॥ ४ ॥
Viṣṇu said 4. O lord, a certain brahmin well known as Upamanyu has burnt everything by his penance for obtaining the milk.

वायुरुवाच ॥ इति श्रुत्वा वचो विष्णोः प्राह देवो महेश्वरः ॥ शिशुं निवारयिष्यामि तत्त्वं गच्छ स्वमाश्रमम् ॥ ५ ॥
Vāyu said:— On hearing the words of Viṣṇu, lord Śiva said:—“I shall prevent the boy. You may please go back to your abodes”.
