स्मृत्वास्मृत्वा पुनः क्षीरमुपमन्युस्स बालकः ॥ देहि देहीति तामाह रुद्रन्भूयो महाद्युतिः ॥ १६ ॥
The boy Upamanyu could not forget the milk he wanted. He the innocent child of great splendour cried frequently pressing his mother to give him milk.
english translation
smRtvAsmRtvA punaH kSIramupamanyussa bAlakaH ॥ dehi dehIti tAmAha rudranbhUyo mahAdyutiH ॥ 16 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptतद्धठं सा परिज्ञाय द्विजपत्नी तपस्विनी ॥ शान्तये तद्धठस्याथ शुभोपायमरीरचत् ॥ १७ ॥
Realising that the boy was tenacious the saintly brahmin lady thought of a plan to quieten his stubbornness.

taddhaThaM sA parijJAya dvijapatnI tapasvinI ॥ zAntaye taddhaThasyAtha zubhopAyamarIracat ॥ 17 ॥

Then she saw the seeds she herself had earned by earning her living Then she rolled the seed paste with water and spoke in a pitcher.

uJchavRttyArjitAnbIjAnsvayaM dRSTvA ca sA tadA ॥ bIjapiSTamathAloDya toyena kalabhASiNI ॥ 18 ॥

ehyehi mama putreti sAmapUrvaM tatassutam ॥ AliMgyAdAya duHkhArtA pradadau kRtrimaM payaH ॥ 19 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptपीत्वा च कृत्रिमं क्षीरं मात्रां दत्तं स बालकः ॥ नैतत्क्षीरमिति प्राह मातरं चातिविह्वलः ॥ २० ॥
On drinking that watery stuff offered as milk, the excited boy shouted. ‘O mother, this is no milk.’

pItvA ca kRtrimaM kSIraM mAtrAM dattaM sa bAlakaH ॥ naitatkSIramiti prAha mAtaraM cAtivihvalaH ॥ 20 ॥
