न तेन सदृशः कश्चित्कृतकृत्यो मुमुक्षुषु ॥ यो यतिर्नैष्ठिको जातस्तमाहुर्नैष्ठिकोत्तमम् ॥ ८६ ॥
Among those desirous of salvation there is none like him who is so content. The Naiṣṭhika who becomes an ascetic is called the excellent Naiṣṭhika.
english translation
na tena sadRzaH kazcitkRtakRtyo mumukSuSu ॥ yo yatirnaiSThiko jAtastamAhurnaiSThikottamam ॥ 86 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptयो ऽन्वहं द्वादशाहं वा व्रतमेतत्समाचरेत् ॥ सो ऽपि नैष्ठिकतुल्यः स्यात्तीव्रव्रतसमन्वयात् ॥ ८७ ॥
He who performs this rite for twelve days or every day is on a par with the Naiṣṭhika, his Vrata being too severe.
english translation
yo 'nvahaM dvAdazAhaM vA vratametatsamAcaret ॥ so 'pi naiSThikatulyaH syAttIvravratasamanvayAt ॥ 87 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptघृताक्तो यश्चरेदेतद्व्रतं व्रतपरायणः ॥ द्वित्रैकदिवसं वापि स च कश्चन नैष्ठिकः ॥ ८८ ॥
A person who applies ghee over his body and performs the rite with devout feelings even for two or three clays is also a Naiṣṭhika.
english translation
ghRtAkto yazcaredetadvrataM vrataparAyaNaH ॥ dvitraikadivasaM vApi sa ca kazcana naiSThikaH ॥ 88 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptकृत्यमित्येव निष्कामो यश्चरेद्व्रतमुत्तमम् ॥ शिवार्पितात्मा सततं न तेन सदृशः क्वचित् ॥ ८९ ॥
He who performs the excellent Vrata without a desire for the fruit feeling that it is his duty, always dedicating his Arman to Śiva has no one equal to him.
english translation
kRtyamityeva niSkAmo yazcaredvratamuttamam ॥ zivArpitAtmA satataM na tena sadRzaH kvacit ॥ 89 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptभस्मच्छन्नो द्विजो विद्वान्महापातकसंभवैः ॥ पापैस्सुदारुणैस्सद्यो मुच्यते नात्र संशयः ॥ ९० ॥
A scholarly brahmin covered with ashes is immediately liberated from the terrible effects of even the great deadly sins.
english translation
bhasmacchanno dvijo vidvAnmahApAtakasaMbhavaiH ॥ pApaissudAruNaissadyo mucyate nAtra saMzayaH ॥ 90 ॥
