ततः शरवरं घोरं दीप्तमाशीविषोपमम् ॥ जग्राह गणपः श्रीमान्स्वयमुग्रपराक्रमः ॥ १६ ॥
Then the chief of Gaṇas, of fierce valour and glory took an excellent arrow blazing like a serpent.
english translation
tataH zaravaraM ghoraM dIptamAzIviSopamam ॥ jagrAha gaNapaH zrImAnsvayamugraparAkramaH ॥ 16 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptबाणोद्धारे भुजो ह्यस्य तूणीवदनसंगतः ॥ प्रत्यदृश्यत वल्मीकं विवेक्षुरिव पन्नगः ॥ १७ ॥
His hand in contact with the opening of the quiver for taking up the arrows appeared like a serpent wishing to enter an anthill.
english translation
bANoddhAre bhujo hyasya tUNIvadanasaMgataH ॥ pratyadRzyata valmIkaM vivekSuriva pannagaH ॥ 17 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptसमुद्धृतः करे तस्य तत्क्षणं रुरुचे शरेः ॥ महाभुजंगसंदष्टो यथा बालभुजङ्गमः ॥ १८ ॥
The arrow lifted and held in the hand shone like the young one of a serpent held within the mouth of a great serpent.
english translation
samuddhRtaH kare tasya tatkSaNaM ruruce zareH ॥ mahAbhujaMgasaMdaSTo yathA bAlabhujaGgamaH ॥ 18 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptशरेण घनतीव्रेण भद्रो रुद्रपराक्रमः ॥ विव्याध कुपितो गाढं ललाटे विष्णुमव्ययम् ॥ १९ ॥
With his stout and sharp arrow, the infuriated Bhadra who resembled Rudra, hit the unchanging Viṣṇu on his forehead.
english translation
zareNa ghanatIvreNa bhadro rudraparAkramaH ॥ vivyAdha kupito gADhaM lalATe viSNumavyayam ॥ 19 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptललाटे ऽभिहितो विष्णुः पूर्वमेवावमानितः ॥ चुकोप गणपेंद्राय मृगेंद्रायेव गोवृषः ॥ २० ॥
Viṣṇu thus insulted and hit on the forehead became angry with the chief of Gaṇas like a cow or bull becoming angry with the lion.

lalATe 'bhihito viSNuH pUrvamevAvamAnitaH ॥ cukopa gaNapeMdrAya mRgeMdrAyeva govRSaH ॥ 20 ॥
