तस्मादेते पितर आर्तवा इति च श्रुतम् ॥ एवं पितॄणामेतेषामृतुकालाभिमानिनाम् ॥ ४६ ॥
It is therefore heard that these forefathers are called Ārtavas. Thus these forefathers, who are proud of their death and time,

tasmAdete pitara ArtavA iti ca zrutam ॥ evaM pitRRNAmeteSAmRtukAlAbhimAninAm ॥ 46 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptआत्मैश्वर्या महात्मानस्तिष्ठंतीहाब्भ्रसंगमात् ॥ आग्निष्वात्ता बर्हिषदः पितरो द्विविधाः स्मृताः ॥ ४७ ॥
The great souls, who are self-sufficient, remain in this world because of the confluence of the waters. There are two kinds of forefathers, namely the Agniṣvātta, the Barhiṣada and the Pitā.

AtmaizvaryA mahAtmAnastiSThaMtIhAbbhrasaMgamAt ॥ AgniSvAttA barhiSadaH pitaro dvividhAH smRtAH ॥ 47 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअयज्वानश्च यज्वानः क्रमात्ते मृहमेधिनः ॥ स्वधासूत पितृभ्यश्च द्वे कन्ये लोकविश्रुते ॥ ४८ ॥
They are the Ayajvānas and the Yajvānas, and they are the mṛhamedhis in this order. Svadhā gave birth to two daughters from her forefathers, who were very famous in the world.

ayajvAnazca yajvAnaH kramAtte mRhamedhinaH ॥ svadhAsUta pitRbhyazca dve kanye lokavizrute ॥ 48 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptमेनां च धरणीं चैव याभ्यां विश्वमिदं धृतम् ॥ अग्निष्वात्तसुता मेना धरणी बर्हिषत्सुता ॥ ४९ ॥
Mena and the earth, by which this universe is sustained. The son of Agniṣvātta was Menā, and the son of Barhiṣat was Dharāṇī.

menAM ca dharaNIM caiva yAbhyAM vizvamidaM dhRtam ॥ agniSvAttasutA menA dharaNI barhiSatsutA ॥ 49 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptमेना हिमवतः पत्नी मैनाकं क्रौंचमेव च ॥ गौरीं गंगां च सुषुवे भवांगाश्लेषपावनीम् ॥ ५० ॥
Mena, the wife of Himavan, gave birth to Mainaka and Krauncha. She gave birth to Gaurī and Ganga, who purify the embrace of Lord Śiva’s body.

menA himavataH patnI mainAkaM krauMcameva ca ॥ gaurIM gaMgAM ca suSuve bhavAMgAzleSapAvanIm ॥ 50 ॥
