वायुरुवाच ॥ प्रतिकल्पं प्रवक्ष्यामि रुद्राविर्भावकारणम् ॥ यतो विच्छिन्नसंताना ब्रह्मसृष्टिः प्रवर्तते ॥ १ ॥

Vāyu said:— I shall expain the reasons for the manifestation of Rudra in every Kalpa whereby the broken series of Brahmā’s creation is resumed.

english translation

vAyuruvAca ॥ pratikalpaM pravakSyAmi rudrAvirbhAvakAraNam ॥ yato vicchinnasaMtAnA brahmasRSTiH pravartate ॥ 1 ॥

कल्पेकल्पे प्रजाः सृष्ट्वा ब्रह्मा ब्रह्मांडसंभवः ॥ अवृद्धिहेतोर्भूतानां मुमोह भृशदुःखितः ॥ २ ॥

After creating the subjects in every Kalpa, Brahmā born of the cosmic egg felt excessively distressed. He was deluded.

तस्य दुःखप्रशांत्यर्थं प्रजानां च विवृद्धये ॥ तत्तत्कल्पेषु कालात्मा रुद्रो रुद्रगणाधिपः ॥ ३ ॥

To relieve his suffering and to increase the prosperity of his subjects In those respective kalpas Rudra, the soul of time, is the lord of the hosts of Rudras.

tasya duHkhaprazAMtyarthaM prajAnAM ca vivRddhaye ॥ tattatkalpeSu kAlAtmA rudro rudragaNAdhipaH ॥ 3 ॥

निर्दिष्टः पममेशेन महेशो नीललोहितः ॥ पुत्रो भूत्वानुगृह्णाति ब्रह्माणं ब्रह्मणोनुजः ॥ ४ ॥

The great lord of the universe was blue and red as directed by Lord Pama. The younger brother of Brahma becomes a son and shows mercy to Brahma.

nirdiSTaH pamamezena mahezo nIlalohitaH ॥ putro bhUtvAnugRhNAti brahmANaM brahmaNonujaH ॥ 4 ॥

स एव भगवानीशस्तेजोराशिरनामयः ॥ अनादिनिधनोधाता भूतसंकोचको विभुः ॥ ५ ॥

Ho alone is lord Īśa, a mass of splendour, free from ailment, devoid of beginning and end, the creator and the lord making all living beings shrink.

sa eva bhagavAnIzastejorAziranAmayaH ॥ anAdinidhanodhAtA bhUtasaMkocako vibhuH ॥ 5 ॥
