स कथं भगवान् रुद्र आदिदेवः पुरातनः ॥ पुत्रत्वमगमच्छंभुर्ब्रह्मणो ऽव्यक्तजन्मनः ॥ ६ ॥
How is that ancient Lord Rudra, the original demigod? Lord Śambhu became the son of the unmanifest Brahman.
english translation
प्रजापतिश्च विष्णुश्च रुद्रस्यैतौ परस्परम् ॥ सृष्टौ परस्परस्यांगादिति प्रागपि शुश्रुम ॥ ७ ॥
We have also heard that Brahmā and Viṣṇu were born of Rudra and created Rudra. Thus they mutually created each other.
english translation
कथं पुनरशेषाणां भूतानां हेतुभूतयोः ॥ गुणप्रधानभावेन प्रादुर्भावः परस्परात् ॥ ८ ॥
How could the two, progenitors of the living beings, come out of each other thereby possessing both prominence or otherwise?
english translation
नापृष्टं भवता किंचिन्नाश्रुतं च कथंचन ॥ भगवच्छिष्यभूतेन भवता सकलं स्मृतम् ॥ ९ ॥
There is nothing unseen or unheard by you. Every thing is remembered by you who had been the disciple of the lord himself.
english translation
तत्त्वं वद यथा ब्रह्मा मुनीनामवदद्विभुः ॥ वयं श्रद्धालवस्तात श्रोतुमीश्वरसद्यशः ॥ १० ॥
Please narrate how Brahmā became the lord of all sages. O dear, we are faithful and eager to hear the great glory of the lord.
