मुनय ऊचुः ॥ मन्वंतराणि सर्वाणि कल्पभेदांश्च सर्वशः ॥ तेष्वेवांतरसर्गं च प्रतिसर्गं च नो वद ॥ १ ॥
The sages said:— Please narrate the Manvantaras, the Kalpas, the subsidiary creations and the re-creation after dissolution.
english translation
munaya UcuH ॥ manvaMtarANi sarvANi kalpabhedAMzca sarvazaH ॥ teSvevAMtarasargaM ca pratisargaM ca no vada ॥ 1 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptवायुरुवाच ॥ कालसंख्याविवृत्तस्य परार्धो ब्रह्मणस्स्मृतः ॥ तावांश्चैवास्य कालोन्यस्तस्यांते प्रतिसृज्यते ॥ २ ॥
Vāyu said:— The tenure of Brahmā who comes and goes according to the calculation of time is first a Parārdha and another Parārdha thereafter. At the end of the latter the re-creation takes place.
english translation
vAyuruvAca ॥ kAlasaMkhyAvivRttasya parArdho brahmaNassmRtaH ॥ tAvAMzcaivAsya kAlonyastasyAMte pratisRjyate ॥ 2 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptदिवसे दिवसे तस्य ब्रह्मणः पूर्वजन्मनः ॥ चतुर्दशमहाभागा मनूनां परिवृत्तयः ॥ ३ ॥
In each day in the life of Brahmā, the fourteen Manus come and go.
english translation
divase divase tasya brahmaNaH pUrvajanmanaH ॥ caturdazamahAbhAgA manUnAM parivRttayaH ॥ 3 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptअनादित्वादनंतत्वादज्ञेयत्वाच्च कृत्स्नशः ॥ मन्वंतराणि कल्पाश्च न शक्या वचनात्पृथक् ॥ ४ ॥
The Manvantaras and Kalpas have no beginning or end. Being unknowable they cannot be narrated separately.
english translation
anAditvAdanaMtatvAdajJeyatvAcca kRtsnazaH ॥ manvaMtarANi kalpAzca na zakyA vacanAtpRthak ॥ 4 ॥
hk transliteration by Sanscriptउक्तेष्वपि च सर्वेषु शृण्वतां वो वचो मम ॥ किमिहास्ति फलं तस्मान्न पृथक्वक्तुमुत्सहे ॥ ५ ॥
Even if they be knowable, of what avail is it to you to know them. Hence I do not attempt to narrate them separately.

ukteSvapi ca sarveSu zRNvatAM vo vaco mama ॥ kimihAsti phalaM tasmAnna pRthakvaktumutsahe ॥ 5 ॥
